30 Jul

I?ve been in the web design business for 7 years and I?ve seen a lot of websites that stand out. I can honestly say that I?ve designed some kickass looking websites but at the end of the day it doesn?t matters. At the end of the day it?s all about conversion and how well that website converted those visitors into clients.

If you?ve got a kickass looking website but it?s not turning visitors into cash there are a couple things I would look at.

1. Do you have a toll free number in the header on every page?

2. Is the content easy to read?

3. Is there a call to action in the top right corner of the page?

4. Is every page on your site set up as a landing page?

5. Do you have a logo?

6. Is the content written so it is easy to understand?
7. Did you get your website designed by a professional? Good companies might charge slightly more than your friend, but in the long run, the benefits directly affect the conversion ratio.

8. Did you design the ordering process keeping in mind that the average potential customers might have minimal internet skills?

9. Is there a call to action, such as asking to place the order, or sign-up for email should be used at every possible conversion point?

10. Did you make the information about ordering the product is easy to understand and find?

11. Did you place the questions that your visitor might ask in the FAQ section or as small tips during the ordering process?

12. Does your copy instantly connect with the visitor and speak in a personalized and persuasive way?
13. Make your web forms short, sweet and easy to fill. Most importantly, do not ask for unnecessary information.
14. Place endorsements from reputable organizations to build customers trust.
15. Where are the visitors coming from, are you sure they are looking for what you are selling?
16. What colors are you using for your website?
Yes, one of the most interesting things to me is how colors affect the way we think and feel. They affect us whether we are aware of it or not. Some colors affect us more than others but they all have their own individual properties that affect us.

Do you have a toll free number in the header on every page?

All colors don?t affect all people in the same ways, however, there have been extensive studies done that show how colors effect the majority of people in the same ways. As with all rules, there are exceptions, but to ignore the power of colors would be to ignore an essential element of a good website design.

Another extremely important element to colors is not only the properties or emotions each color conjures up in each of us, but also how combination’s of colors make people feel. And to further complicate your perfect color selection you also have to be concerned with the fact that people have to be able to read your content or the most beautiful color in the world will be for nothing.
No matter how important you feel the content on your site is, if they can?t read it due to bad color selection they will leave in search of another site to serve their needs.

The theory of buy to let

- You use the equity you have or by some other means raise a deposit for a property;
- You get a buy to let mortgage, usually at 85% of the value;
- You buy a property, and rent it out, using the deposit and mortgage;
- The rent covers most, if not all, of the mortgage and running costs.

Build to let has all the advantages of self build added on to the concepts behind buy to let, this has a large number of advantages and guaranteed profit in any economic climate.

Very many people have become wealthy through ‘buy to let’, and many are still in the process of doing the same with build to let.
Les us describe the concept of buy to let and then take it a stage further and see how the profit can really stack up.

The theory of buy to let

- You use the equity you have or by some other means raise a deposit for a property;
- You get a buy to let mortgage, usually at 85% of the value;
- You buy a property, and rent it out, using the deposit and mortgage;
- The rent covers most, if not all, of the mortgage and running costs.

When property prices go up

- you now have more equity, which you can use against a loan or mortgage to throw up the extra cash;
- you use this cash as a deposit for another house obtained in the same way as above.
This can be repeated as many times as you like, only restricted by how much the properties increase in price and the equity you can make available.
As the number of properties increase the cycle speeds up, as you have more properties whose equities can be added together. Some people have got hundreds of houses now, while quite a large number have well over 20 each, very many have 10 or more.

You can maximize the growth rate by:
- clever buying, buying under the current value self build, making a 25 to 60% saving on purchase costs;
- spotting properties that can be increased in value with minimal work, and cost selecting areas where prices will increase rapidly;
- selecting areas where the demand will increase rents, and keep your properties full;
- making things happen fast getting started as soon as possible.

Build to let

The advantages in self build, over going and buying a new estate house is cost, and knowing the quality of the build is high and you will not have problems in the future.
Any newer house should require less maintenance and be far easier to keep let all the time than older properties.

As the area becomes established, landscaped etc, rents will reflect this increased quality feel.

It can also allow people to get involved who have less capital and those with the same amount of capital to get a number of builds started at the same time.

This is because:
- You spend less on each property saving 25-60%
- You can get a 95% loan/mortgage on a self build (land and construction costs) which can be remortgaged to 85% when completed as a buy to let, using the equity that is already in the property means you need no further deposit, and most likely will get a large sum back to go into the next step.
- Although some do build far larger, and more highly specified houses by self build than are available conventionally, this does not need to be the case, and you can, by the same methods and means, build properties of any style, size or for any market.

To get into property owning or to add an individual property you can see, can be achieved by raising just 5% of a far smaller sum, and even this can be recovered as soon as the house is built.

Domain thefts are on the rise, and the people blindly helping these blatant thefts may surprise you. Domain registrars and ICANN for the most part!

Recently, a hacker broke into my namescheap.com user account, and transferred two of my oldest domains

away from namecheap.com and to (according to most of the posts on the Internet) a known hacker / thief

domain registrar called estdomains.com.

When I discovered this criminal’s email address in my account, I emailed namecheap.com’s fraud

department, and soon discovered the domains had been transferred out to estdomains.com.

Since I had paid for two years in these domains, and the two years weren’t up yet, I was pretty

confident namecheap.com would reverse the transfer and get my domains back. Wrong….

I was told that namecheap.com had to get something called a Standardized Form of Authorization (FOA)

from the gaining registrar (estdomains.com) and that would clear things up, but this would just makes

things worse. Three weeks later, namecheap.com told me that the transfer was done according to ICANN

rules and policies and that the public whois matched the thief’s at the time of the transfer!

How did this happen? The thief broke into my domain account at namecheap.com (they, of course, denied

this was possible), then changed my email address for each domain to his, and changed all the contact

info (the information shown in a public whois) to his own, and saved everything. Anywhere from 10

minutes to an hour later, the whois info now shows the hacker’s email and contact info, and he now can

transfer the domain anywhere he wants to!

You may think that since I still owned the domains, and that for nearly two years my whois information

was listed, and the thief hadn’t even bothered to change the domain name-servers from my VPS host, that

namecheap.com would see that and realize the domain was stolen and that I hadn’t transferred the domains. Wrong again…

I soon discovered that namecheap.com only cares if the public whois information matches the person transferring the domain at the time of the transfer, and that the person transferring said domain does it according to namecheap.com’s weak “Yes or No” system for transferring domains. Since the hacker had changed the whois to his information just prior to requesting a transfer and followed the rules for transferring a domain, the domain was his as far as namecheap.com (and everyone else in the domain registrar business) was concerned.

In other words, as long as the domain registrars have covered themselves with “the domain was transferred as per policy”, then that domain you paid 10 years for and still have 9 left is no longer yours! They will NOT investigate, and no matter how obvious the theft, or how many receipts you have proving ownership, they will do nothing

what are the options if you lose a domain? ICANN.org will let you pay for an arbitration committee. The Price? For a one person arbitration it’s $1,500.00. If you hire an attorney, and go to court, you can probably guess it’s gonna be a whole lot more.

Sounds pretty bleak for domain owners huh? It IS bleak since the domain registrars have made sure they have no obligation to their customers to protect the customer’s domains purchased through each registrar.

How can you lessen the chances of losing your domain?

1. Register the domain for at least five years.
2. Do not under any circumstance use a free email account for your domain registrar account, or your domain contact information. Everything you enter into the domain registration info is available to the public if you don’t use a private whois subscription service. Criminals look for domains using free email accounts such as hotmail and yahoo that they can break into.
3. Use the lock option for each domain. Keep in mind tho, that if a hacker break into your email account or domain registrar account, he can easily remove the lock in order to transfer the domain(s).
4. Use a strong password for all your email and other accounts (not the same one!) … Mix up the password and don’t use dictionary words .
5. Login and check your domain accounts frequently. This means to check all the domains whois information and your listed domain email.

After this experience, I think as domain name owners, we really need to band together and put pressure on the domain registrars and ICANN.org to help protect our investments rather than allow the registrars and ICANN.org to help the criminals (that are simply using the registrar’s and ICANN’s policy loopholes) to steal anyone’s domain.

As businesses are getting more environmentally conscious, this phenomenon has fueled businesses across the world to use Business to Business (B2B) portals as their international business tool for all their trading needs. However, in the early 1990’s, though the concept was well accepted by the business world, traders were skeptical about the positive results. But today leading B2B portals have proved beyond doubt the world that the concept is not only fast and cost effective, but also an eco-friendly medium to do international trade.

Top trade shows still attract many companies to showcase their products and services, but a majority of small and medium enterprises (SME) have totally resorted to do the same through B2Bs. And this in fact, has reduced unnecessary movement of people and commodities to several such shows resulting in lowering cost of marketing as well as energy to every business entity involved.

Besides, instead of traveling to meet a new client to a foreign land, traders found this new rendezvous in the form of B2B portal. In business development process, after making initial interactions through emails, they sometimes even confirm their business facilities through video-conferencing before inking the deals, and this too is made possible through B2Bs.

According to studies, more than 60% of SME utilize the services of B2Bs directly or indirectly. Though there is a flurry and mushrooming of several B2Bs with claims of providing complete business solutions, leading B2Bs are still largely sought after in the e-commerce arena.

B2Bs are environmentally appealing mainly because of the non-involvement of any kind global warming material being used in the business development process.

. The complete business process except product delivery involves just electronic interaction and transaction.

. Products or services are presented to the client/clients by redirecting them to their respective websites from their B2B profile or through the same profile itself depending upon the B2B package their have opted for.

. Avoids physical presence in all stages of business, and in abstract services even delivery is made electronically.

B2Bs generated huge revenues as compared to other business models engaged in global trade without emitting any harmful green house gases or cutting trees which was otherwise used extensively in paper-based business processes of the past. Perhaps serious concern for the deteriorating health of the environment due to climate change and other related issues have prompted businesses to take a paradigm shift to opt for B2Bs.

Most B2Bs expect bringing in such awareness among traders will also help these portals to grow besides other positive aspects. In addition, these portals hope environmentally conscious traders to market B2B concept to non-users through word of mouth or other means to adopt it as part of ’save the planet slogan’. Some of the B2Bs provide even international services including transport, go-between and other services, besides the regulars, import and export to put their use into good effect.

Apart from the eco-friendly aspects of these portals there are other attractive reasons for traders to adopt this model such as, negligible cost involved in marketing operations of any given company, user-friendliness and not to mention the speed in delivering goods. Though there are any scales to measure the amount or number of benefits to the environment after the arrival of B2B portals is available, looking into the features as well as the time presence, one is made to believe, they have made a huge positive impact in the eco front. The eco-conscious traders, if they have not started utilizing these services, will certainly adopt this business tool as a medium for their global and even for their domestic trading needs very soon.

Media marketing is not a new phenomenon. It is probably as old as the net itself. But the pertinent question that we need to ask ourselves is that are we actually on the right track when it comes to media marketing or are we like the proverbial blind mice running down the alleyways with nothing but our most basic instincts to guide us?

There are a lot of other things that we need to clarify such as:-

?	How much Targeted visitor are spending their time on other relevant site and what response other sites are getting?
?	They are attending SEM conferences as per they want to hire a company for search engine marketing or just want to learn so that they can do it them self.
?	What strategy other companies are following about the media marketing?
?	Is there any group, doing online comparison of various companies? brands?
?	Are there such visitors, who really seeking out for such king of article?

If yes, we’d be remiss not to promote our websites in those spaces. But is this media marketing? Or is it simply online marketing?

Of course one can always argue that it does fall into the realm of media marketing if it increases link popularity, but surely that should be the secondary goal of this type of marketing campaign.

The fact remains that link popularity comes from having something worth linking to, not something you’ve asked your insulated group of cronies to link to.

The amount of direct traffic diversion that takes place when something or some site is being discussedin all the right places is phenomenal but what remains to be seen is that is this reason enough to try to be found in all the right places.

Another very important issue that needs to be addressed is that how much of that traffic that results from our media marketing efforts actually converts into anything good, and how much does it help your organic search rankings? What is more important is the amount that it contributes to your bottom line.

Don?t you feel that media marketing is just like preaching to the choir? What I?m trying to say is that instead of reaching your target audience you simply end up reaching your peers whoa re not going to contribute to your coffers and tat is what matters.
Of course it’s a nice ego stroke to have others in your industry tell you how great you are, and there’s something to be said for building credibility within your own community but how does it help you to sell your products and services?

Does it lead to more customers and more conversions? That is the issue that you need to think about and to answer.
Also, do your media marketing efforts actually increase your rankings for the keyword phrases your actual target audience is typing into the search engines?

With all the hype about social media marketing people might end up believing that is this is what SEO demands and what SEO is all about.

Always remember that media marketing is a great addition to any traditional SEO work that you do, but it’s not a substitute. So before you jump on the media marketing bandwagon give it a good hard think. It?s an addition not an alternative.

Flying blind in marketing is not the way to run your business.
Where to Start:

Most novice marketers have definite fixed ideas about direct mail that are way off base - most often in the area of what to spend and how much to do. You should determine what you are able to spend for your marketing budget, spend it, and determine the maximum number of leads that you can create. For instance, I have heard this statement quite often: “We are not that large of a company. How could we send out 2,000 postcards all at once?” because “What if they all call?” seems like a valid concern, right?

Here is the reality behind it: Unfortunately they will not all call. However, a good deal of them very well may and making sure that your traffic in is not more than you can handle is something to think about. Truthfully, there is no sure way to tell exactly how many people will call if you have not done this type of marketing before. Think of it this way. What would happen if they did all call? You may not be able to handle all of them, but you would handle as many as you possibly could, right?

In this scenario, you would have maximized your income for that time period providing you could close up all those callers! You can also explore the idea of expanding your operation to handle the number of leads that you can create.

What if you did not max out your promotion at the very start? You can afford to send out 4,000 pieces every two weeks but you think that you will simply get too many calls to be able to handle them all. You, instead, send out only 2,000 and the response is decent. However, you still have some down time where you are having to try to manufacture sales.

You saved $400 in marketing money but you had enough down time where you could have closed quite a few more sales than you did. The question now is “Which gives me more money in my pocket? Saving $400 on marketing or closing quite a few more sales and earning an extra couple of G’s potentially.” More than likely the answer is to spend as much as you possibly can on your marketing, right?

By spending all that you can afford on marketing when you start a program you maximize your income almost immediately.

Okay, Time to Track Results.

Hopefully you have more than one way that you try to recruit new customers. So how do you know which ones are working and which are not? Set up a system to track the results.

Let us take for example a situation in which you decide to start a Postcard Marketing Campaign for your business. The first week you send out 3000 postcards. When they start hitting homes you get 30 calls. Did all of these leads come from the postcards? Probably not. Because the week before you got 8 calls and had not sent out any postcards yet. So how can you tell who actually got a postcard?

The Answer: All you have to do is ask them. “So how did you hear about our company?” The hard part is making sure that any employee in your company who answers the phone and may talk to a new prospect remembers to ask the question every time. The fewer prospects who answer this question, the less accurate your information will be when making future marketing decisions.

Now let us assume that you have been sending out postcards for a while and you have a good number of calls coming in. If you ask the question “So how did you hear about our company?” they may respond, “I got your postcard in the mail.” But, by now you have mailed postcards to 4 different lists, 3 times each. How do you tell which list and which mailing this customer was from?

The Answer: Put a marketing code on the postcards that will tell you which specific postcard they received and when it was mailed.

Give each list a name and work the date into your marketing code as well. And the only thing your representatives have to ask is “Would you mind reading me the marketing code above your address?” This code should give you all the info that you need to know and help you keep your Marketing Results Tracking as accurate as possible.

Try not to operate off of assumptions about how to market if you have not educated yourself. And make sure you collect all the data and make your future marketing decisions based on the facts.

Joy Gendusa founded PostcardMania (www.PostcardMania.com) in 1998, her only assets a computer and a phone. By 2005 the company did over $12 million in sales, employed over 100 people and made Inc. Magazines prestigious Inc 500 List as one of the 500 fastest growing companies in the nation. She attributes her explosive growth to her ability to choose incredible staff and her innate marketing savvy.

Marketing smarter can lead to greater profits.
Let’s talk about how to keep your postage costs down.

So far you have been following my advice and mailing to the same list more
than once. At some point you find lists that will produce returns continually, but you notice that you are receiving more returns than when you started mailing to those lists.

You may see things like “Undeliverable as Addressed” or “Forwarding Order Expired.” Every time you mail to an address and that prospect has moved or cannot be found for any reason, you have just paid for the postage with no possibility of getting a response.

Obviously it is a pretty big waste of money to continue to mail to this address, but what do you do about it? You could simply go into the list of names that you have purchased and delete the returns. No more bad addresses, no more wasted postage, right? That is one option but there is a better way to handle the situation.

The US Postal Service has an NCOA (National Change of Address) System that a limited number of companies are licensed to access. These companies are able to take the list that you have purchased, or compiled yourself, and check it against the USPS system. You will receive a report that will let you know if anyone on your list has moved, gone out of business, or even if the zip code that contact was in was changed by the Post Office itself. Along with the report you will receive a new copy of your list that has been cleaned and updated.

The cost for having your list checked is very economical (about $5.00 per thousand records) and will allow you to keep getting your message out to as many people in your list as possible.

At times you can see up to a 10% undeliverable rate, and it can even be higher on older lists that you have been using for a while. Average is more like 5% undeliverable so let?s take a look at the numbers at that rate.

If you mail 10,000 and get 5% back for bad addresses: 10,000 x .05 = 500 pieces.

You will have paid postage on 500 pieces that did not reach their destination.

So if you mail to your list again without cleaning it you have just wasted: 500 x $0.26 (for 4.25×6? postcards) = $130.00. (Note: The rate is even higher for larger postcards. And postage rates rise just about every year around May).

If you were to NCOA that list at a rate of $5.00 per thousand you would have spent: 10 x $5.00 = $50.00.

So you have three choices when faced with a list that needs cleaning:

1. Spend hours deleting every return that you receive from your list.

2. Waste $130.00 or more in postage every time you mail to that list.

OR:

3. Have the list checked by an NCOA service and get back in touch with customers that may have moved, for around one third the cost.

The NCOA service is the easiest and most effective way to keep your postage costs down.

    Using a powerful, simple, extremely cost effective way of communicating with customers has earned Joy Gendusa Inc Magazine?s recognition as the nation?s fastest growing direct mail postcard marketing firm with year 2007 revenues near $19,000,000. Gendusa began in 1998 with zero investment capital. Today her firm, PostcardMania, (www.PostcardMania.com) employs 150 people and prints 4 million postcards representing 28,000 customers.

The world of publishing is shaped by the needs of its readers. The publications industry grows year after year as it recognizes the necessity to represent the needs of new communities as they appear.

It is essential that people have, at the very least, a basic point of reference to obtain relevant information that is of key importance to them. The chief aim of a publication is to render details of significance to their target audience in a manner that satisfies the demand.

The variety of services the publications industry provides is highly varied. Anything produced for the information of people would denote a published item. From signage to pamphlets, digital information to hard copy material such as books and magazines; the broad scope of publishing is an extremely wide-ranging arena.

As varied as the services offered by the publications industry are, so too are the groups that require that information. In the UK, there are many individuals who have traveled to the country to live and work. In certain parts of the UK there are communities with high populations of individuals of different nationalities. In these areas, it is important that the needs of all individuals comprising these communities are catered for.

Therefore it is vital that, in terms of information, no section of society is at a disadvantage when it comes to having access to information that is of importance to themselves as well as the rest of the community.

Multilingual publishing is a service that provides information outlets with the facility to translate their material, regardless of format, into a language that meets the demands of a particular community or target audience.
For example, if a local council had a requirement to translate their online content to help individuals of a particular language group, they would be able to engage the assistance of a translation services provider. Many such providers have access to an enormous number of qualified linguists who, in turn, specialize in hundreds of languages spoken all over the world.

Ideally, information would be available to communities with different language needs at the outset. With this in mind, the Home Office went ahead with production of a document entitled, Living and Working in Britain. The booklets main objective was to provide individuals with access to basic information relating to their new lives in the UK. It offered assistance, and provided semi-formal advice on issues ranging from buying a home to driving in the UK.

Living and Working in Britain needed to be translated into 17 languages from Arabic to Urdu. Companies that specialize in translation not only able to translate the document, but can also to make sure that the tone of the original message is maintained.

By producing this document and subsequently engaging a translation service provider, The Home Office was able to communicate to its audience effectively. By ensuring that the tone of its original message was upheld, they could be confident that the information in the pamphlet was conveyed in exactly the right way.

For the recipients of this literature, the fact that they were able to receive pointed information in their own language was of massive benefit. Individuals seeking to live and work in another country face numerous obstacles when settling down. By providing information designed to make that transition as smooth as possible, a positive step towards effective integration is taken.

Beyond specific sectors empowering individuals with the knowledge to begin a process of inclusion, other sectors of society need their information to be made accessible too. If knowledge can be shared with people in a language they understand, the journey towards integration can be made without any uncertainties or ambiguities.

Language service providers play a pivotal role in making sure that information is accessible to all. By enabling government sectors to speak to foreign nationals, we move closer towards an effectively integrated future.
