I was just telling one of my coaching students yesterday that we must always keep in mind that the media is in the business of selling fear inducing information. I highly doubt that traditional Media Centers would have a healthy business model if all they did was publish and share GOOD, positive news. Bottom line: Fear SELLS! It's unfortunate but it's the truth. Most people simply settle for letting others (media, friends, boss, job, enemies, etc.) tell them what they are worth and what they are worthy of. Just yesterday we were in a restaurant in our town and it was jam packed to capacity. No economic troubles there. It alway baffles me when people take the media word at face value. I believe them to be a part of our problem in this country. Ultimately, we can choose what we believe. We can choose to believe the economy is in the tank or we can believe it is rolling right along. I choose to turn away from the naysayers and build my own economy. I am in control of my destiny. Those that choose to make excuses or blame others or situations are living a state of denial or fear. To move on with life and do something productive it is imperative they choose to turn toward the power of belief in themselves and of others. I have to say this is a timely and relevant article.
